Of all our 5 senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch), our visual organ is considered by most people to be the most important and wonderful, since our sense of sight is the actual and main "guiding sense" of us. With our eyes we discover the world! They tell us where we are, what is happening around us and where we want to go. They therefore ensure our safety like no other. We look with them into nature, read books with them, look at the information flowing to us from the media and look through them at our loved ones. But our sense of sight is not only important for physical orientation; it also provides us with important information about a multitude of other things that significantly influence our thoughts, actions and deeds. It is no coincidence that today's information society focuses more on optical perceptions and stimuli.

But how does vision actually work?

Before we can see something, many small steps have to take place in the eye - and at an incredibly high speed. In order for us to perceive people or an object, light must first fall on it, for example from the sun or a lamp. The object then automatically reflects the light. This means that it reflects it back. By looking at the object, we then absorb this reflected light through our eyes.

The light first passes through the conjunctiva and cornea to the pupil. The pupil controls how much light enters the eye. When it is dark, it dilates so that enough light is received. When it is very bright, it makes itself as small as possible so that not too much light gets through.

Once the light has passed through the pupil, it hits the lens. Here it is bundled and refracted - that is, what is seen is turned upside down. This is how it then arrives at the retina. Here there are many millions of tiny helpers, the so-called light-sensing cells (photoreceptors or also called visual cells). These photoreceptors are divided into "rods" and "cones", which are not only different in size, but also have different functions. The latter becomes already understandable by the fact that we have approx. 120 million rods in our human eye, but only 7 million cones. The "rods" are responsible for recognizing how bright or dark what we see is. The cones are responsible for seeing it in color and, most importantly, in focus.

The collected information is then passed on to the optic nerve, which brings it directly to the brain. Only there are they evaluated and put together to form a correct image - the image that you then see the right way round.

For most of us, good vision is such a matter of course that we don't even give it much thought. Yet our brain and our eyes are constantly performing at their best, which is why we need to care for them: In addition to a balanced and healthy lifestyle (with sufficient sleep), we can also influence the maintenance of this complex functional system through our diet. Especially the latter is not unimportant, since our eyes or our visual system also depend on the supply of nutrients for its constant function. Many of these immensely important nutrients are contained in our best-selling product Eyelight.

For example, each individual vegetarian capsule contains the valuable blueberry extract. The effectiveness of blueberries on human eyesight was already described by the scholar Hildegard von Bingen in the Middle Ages. She recommended the use of fresh blueberries against failing eyesight. British military pilots also realized the effect of blueberries on human eyesight during World War II. According to reports, pilots were able to significantly improve their night vision by eating blueberries. And also racing drivers swear by blueberry extracts as well as corresponding dietary supplements containing these extracts. Especially in expected poor visibility conditions or in races at dusk or during the night hours, this is real doping for the eyes. The reason for the many positive results are the anthocyanidins contained in blueberries, which are said to have a general antioxidant effect and stabilize the elasticity of the eye muscles. Thus, they are said to protect the walls of blood vessels from free radicals. This improves vision at dusk and during the night hours. Accordingly, conventional medicine also uses extracts of blueberries specifically against diseases of the retina.

Furthermore, Eyelight contains high doses of zeaxanthin and lutein. Both carotenoids are generally said to play an important role in sharp vision. Therefore, their concentration in the macula (located in the center of the retina) is the highest. It is not for nothing that the macula is often called the "yellow spot", because the two carotenoids, due to their orange color, "color" it yellow.

The carotenoid astaxanthin is also found in our Eyelight formula because various researchers from Japan published several studies in 2004 and 2005 suggesting that by consuming 6 mg of the natural carotenoid per day, the natural accommodation of the eye is supported. Accommodation (Latin "accommodare "to adapt) of the eye represents the natural dynamic adaptability of the optical refractive power of our eye for the purpose of focusing moving objects. It effectively results in an object located at any distance always being sharply captured and imaged on the retinal plane.

Another important carotenoid in Eyelight is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is probably the best-known carotenoid, especially since it is present in an extremely high concentration in a plant that we have known since childhood, which is how this plant got its name, the "carrot".

As we all know therefore surely, already from earliest childhood the experience handed down over generations was brought to us, according to which a beta Carotin rich nutrition is important in general for healthy eyes and an optimal eyesight. It is no coincidence that there is a well-known joke that carrots as a food are supposedly the reason why no rabbit or hare has ever been seen with a visual aid.

In fact, of course, today we know much more about the tasks and function of beta-carotene in the human body than in the past. Beta-carotene is a so-called "provitamin" from which the important vitamin A is formed in the human body. For this reason, beta-carotene is also called "provitamin A".

Today we know that it is not beta-carotene itself, but vitamin A, which is converted from beta-carotene in the body, that contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. Beta -carotene is therefore a wonderful natural source of nutrients for our body to form vitamin A. And because vitamin A plays such an important role in maintaining vision, we've also added it to the Eyelight formula in a high-dose form. This important eye vitamin is primarily present in the rods of our retina and is thus responsible for light-dark vision, among other things.

The importance of the function of vitamin A in the human body can best be seen when a vitamin A deficiency occurs in the body. The first sign of a vitamin A deficiency is namely the so-called "night blindness", which was already known as a symptom by the Egyptians more than 3,500 years ago. In addition, typical symptoms of vitamin A deficiency are: drying out of the lacrimal glands and conjunctiva with the formation of yellowish horny spots, formation of ulcers on the cornea of the eye, and even blindness.

The often underestimated vitamin C is of course also represented in the Eyelight formulation, because it also plays an important role in visual function, among other things. Indeed, recent scientific research suggests that vitamin C plays a crucial role in, among other things, the reception and transmission of information at the receptors of the cells of the optic nerves and in the brain.

For this purpose, it is necessary to know that there are special receptors in nerve cells and in the brain - so-called "GABA receptors" - which are important in the communication and transmission of information between nerve cells. To prove whether and how vitamin C is involved in the regulation of these receptors, the researchers placed microelectrodes on the retinal cells of goldfish in a laboratory experiment. According to the scientists, they are comparable to human retinal cells and have the same biochemical structure. The scientists found that the effect of the retinal GABA receptors was significantly increased in the presence of vitamin C. In the absence of vitamin C, however, the effect of the retinal GABA receptors was significantly increased. In the absence of vitamin C, however, a significant decrease in GABA receptor function was observed.

In the absence of vitamin C, the receptors even began to collapse and no longer functioned properly. As soon as vitamin C was added again, they became more active again. The researchers conclude that this proves that vitamin C decisively regulates the function of these GABA receptors, which are important for the transmission of information. However, it is not yet known exactly how this regulatory mechanism works. It is possible that vitamin C protects the receptors and cells by intercepting free oxygen radicals before they can damage the cells. This is still a hypothesis and requires further research to understand the exact mechanism of action. Irrespective of this, however, it can be stated that vitamin C has an elementary function in taking over and transmitting optical stimuli within the nervous system.

There is another multitude of other substances from Mother Nature's garden, which are traditionally said to have a wide variety of positive effects in support of the healthy visual system, although unfortunately there has not yet been a complementary and desirable complete set of studies for this traditional knowledge. Even the European Commission, which wanted and was supposed to draw up a corresponding list of the effect statements to be established afterwards, has not yet made a final decision on this and has put the claims applied for in this regard for many plant substances - which are also referred to as "botanicals" - on hold until further notice.

However, we are so convinced of these substances that they have also found their rightful place in our Eyelight formulation. These natural substances include student flower extract, elderberry extract, Japanese knotweed extract, eyebright extract and maqui berry extract. By the way, maqui berries are said to provide quick and lasting relief from dry and irritated eyes. Clinical studies have shown that these berries provide lasting relief from dry eye syndrome - without the side effects of risky prescription eye drops.

You'll also find the ancient plant Ginkgo Biloba in Eyelight, because its ingredients have long been said to positively support, among other things, the normal blood supply to cells and tissues through the small capillaries.

And trace elements such as iron and zinc must not be missing, of course. The latter plays a very important role in the metabolism of beta-carotene, for example. And iron supports, among other things, the transport of oxygen in our body. Oxygen in particular is also very important for our eyesight, as many a mountaineer will have experienced when climbing high mountains. If the air becomes thinner at altitude and the oxygen contained therein becomes less, this immediately affects the mountaineer's eyesight, which then rapidly deteriorates and leads to corresponding visual impairments such as temporary blurred vision, flickering in front of the eyes, increased sensitivity to light, etc. The Eyelight has been rounded off by the Eyelight®, which has been developed to meet the needs of the mountaineer.

The Eyelight formula was rounded off with copper, thiamine and Vitaim E. It is important for you to know that Eyelight contains the important eye substances in the form of extracts. The reason: extracts are always more concentrated than the commonly used plant powders. You will be able to see the difference in the truest sense of the word.
